Everybody needs a good “SNUCKLE” once in a while...

Sitting across the table from my mom and sister in our customary spot in the dining room, I laughed so hard that my abs hurt. Thats probably a good thing because exercise was definitely not on my vacation itinerary. We were discussing what we would do the next couple days in St. Maarten and in Antigua.

My mom explained that it was totally up to my sister and me to decide the excursions we would participate in. She looked at me to explain one caveat and said, “I just can’t snuckle.” (Side note: My mom is Korean, and sometimes words that are new to her have unusual pronunciations.)

I looked at her puzzled and queried, “Snuckle?”

She repeated herself. “You know, snuckle?”

She then looked at my sister who was engrossed in another conversation and said, “Angel might like to snuckle?”

Angel looked at her shocked and said, “SNUCKLE?” (She really thought my mom was going off the deep end as the word made us think of activities done with a two-year-old or in the privacy of your own bedroom.)

I had an epiphany when Angel said the strange word. “You mean Snorkel?” I asked.

“Yes! Oh, Snorkel!” as we all began to laugh silently. You know the kind of laugh where you can’t breathe because it is stuck inside of you and won’t come all the way out. Those are the ones that make your abs hurt.

I literally almost fell out of my chair.

We continued to use the word throughout the vacation whenever we needed a good laugh. I have decided that “snuckling” sounds way more fun than plain old snorkeling and should be added to everyones’ vocabulary.

You’re Welcome!
