Leaning cake, absent food, deflated balloons, and parched throats...

Leaning Cake, absent food, deflated balloons, and parched throats are not traditionally indicators of future happiness, but this time they were.

To list everything that went wrong on our wedding day will be quite the task, but here we go in no particular order:

  1. We ordered a three-tier wedding cake complete with the white plastic columns in between the layers, they delivered it, it leaned precariously, but somehow remained upright.

  2. We didn't have money for decorations at the reception so we ordered a helium tank and balloons.  Classy!  Our wedding party blew up all the balloons the night before.  The next morning, they were discovered to have not won the fight with gravity and were decorating the floor.

  3. The floor of the reception place we rented had never been swept, or maybe it had a year ago.  Needless to say, the bottom of my dress was brown after one walk around the building, and the balloons that were piled on the stage had lost their shine.

  4. We were going to have Korean food and American food at the reception.  Note, unlike today Korean food was not cool to eat back then, but a little odd.  The American food never showed up.  Watching everyone's faces as they went through the food line trying to decipher what they were eating was priceless.

  5. We had no beverages.  I mean, we had a punch fountain with no punch in it or any other liquid refreshment.  I think we had a water fountain in the building and cups, but that I am not sure of.

  6. In Korea, you hire someone to do your hair and makeup, and apparently they do a lot more than that.  My little Korean hairdresser clad in jeans and t-shirt was often found on the stage during the wedding arranging my dress.  You will also note in my pictures that my lip color changes drastically when she reapplied my lipstick in bright red.

So there you have it.  Our day summed up in some pretty major fails, but 25 years later, I adore the man and he thinks I'm pretty amazing.  I'd say it's a win.

P. S. My wedding day advice:

  1. When something inevitably goes wrong, just say to yourself, "It isn't as bad as the Lemon's wedding!"

  2. Have a professional do everything.

  3. Elope.
